Kanbawzathadi Palace (Myanmar (Burma))

Weather…

The Kanbawzathadi Palace in Bago is a striking reconstruction of the original royal seat of King Bayinnaung, the founder of the Second Burmese Empire in the 16th century. The original complex was completed in 1553 and consisted of 76 grand buildings and halls that manifested the might of the Toungoo Dynasty. In 1599, the palace was razed by fire during internal conflicts and remained forgotten for centuries until archaeological excavations in the 1990s uncovered the original foundations. The current reconstruction is based on these findings and detailed historical chronicles from that period. Notable features include the Bhamayaza Throne Hall, known for its massive teak pillars and elaborate gold gilding. An on-site museum displays original artifacts, including charred teak logs from the 16th-century structure. The palace provides a unique window into the golden era of Burmese history and serves as a monument to Bago's former dominance in Southeast Asia.
