Mocuba is a significant urban center in Zambézia Province, located on the banks of the Licungo River in north-central Mozambique. The city serves as a strategic transportation hub where the country's primary north-south highway (N1) intersects with roads leading into the interior. Elevated to city status in 1971, Mocuba has evolved into a vital trading center for regional agricultural commodities such as tea, sisal, and tobacco. The surrounding fertile lands have fostered the development of processing plants and large-scale plantations. In addition to its economic role, Mocuba is an educational pillar, hosting a campus of the Eduardo Mondlane University. Despite suffering extensive damage during the civil war, the city has undergone significant recovery through infrastructure reconstruction and the revitalization of the agricultural sector. The humid tropical climate provides abundant rainfall, making the Licungo River a crucial resource, though it occasionally poses flood risks during the rainy season.
