Macuse Port Project

The Macuse Port Project in Zambezia Province is one of Mozambique's most ambitious infrastructure developments, aimed at creating a new major logistics hub. The plan involves constructing a deep-water port near the mouth of the Macuse River, specifically designed to handle the export of coal and other minerals from Tete Province. The project is integrated with a proposed 500-kilometer railway line that will connect the coal mines of Moatize directly to the port terminal. This new transport corridor is intended to bypass current logistical bottlenecks at the ports of Beira and Nacala. The venture is led by the Italthai Engineering consortium and the state-owned railway company CFM. Beyond coal, the port is planned to handle agricultural commodities and containerized cargo, providing a significant economic boost to the underdeveloped Zambezia region.
