Zinave National Park (Mozambique)

Weather…

Zinave National Park is located in the Mabote District of Inhambane Province, covering approximately 400,000 hectares along the southern bank of the Save River. Established on June 26, 1973, the park saw its wildlife populations decimated during the civil war, but it has undergone a remarkable transformation since 2016 through a partnership between the Mozambican government and the Peace Parks Foundation. It is currently the site of one of Africa's most extensive rewilding initiatives, with over 2,000 animals, including elephants, lions, buffalos, and both white and black rhinos, successfully reintroduced. The landscape is a diverse mix of mopane woodlands, miombo savannahs, and lush riverine forests, providing a rich habitat for a wide variety of species. As the eastern anchor of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Conservation Area, Zinave is crucial for restoring ecological connectivity across southern African borders. The park's redevelopment includes new ranger stations, intensive conservation management, and burgeoning tourism infrastructure, positioning it as a flagship success story for conservation and regional economic development.
