Inda Island (Mozambique)

Weather…

Inda Island is located off the coast of the Zambezia Province in Mozambique, situated within the coastal waters of the Indian Ocean. The island's topography is characterized by extensive mangrove forests and sandy shorelines that provide a natural barrier against erosion caused by ocean currents and storm surges. Historically, the region has served as a significant landmark for coastal navigation and has been a base for artisanal fishing by local communities for generations. The island hosts a remarkable variety of bird species and serves as a critical nesting site for sea turtles, which return to its undisturbed beaches for egg-laying. In modern times, the ecological importance of the island has increased, serving as a reference point for studies on marine biodiversity and the conservation of mangrove biomes. Its remoteness from major urban centers has helped preserve the original flora and fauna, making it a valuable sanctuary for endangered species in the region. Geologically, the island is primarily composed of Quaternary sediments and coral limestone, reflecting its formation history within the dynamics of the East African coastline.
