Vilankulo coastal fun (Mozambique)

Weather…

The Vilankulo Marine Center features an interactive platform for discovering the underwater world of the Indian Ocean. Vilankulo is the gateway to the Bazaruto Archipelago, a national park covering 1,430 square kilometers renowned for its pristine coral reefs. In this educational facility, children learn about the importance of protecting dugongs (sea cows), as one of East Africa's last viable populations exists here. The exhibition includes information on the five species of sea turtles found in the area and the role of seagrass meadows in the marine ecosystem. Historically, Vilankulo was a significant point for fishing and maritime trade. Today, sustainable tourism is the primary economic sector. The park promotes awareness of marine pollution and teaches methods for preserving biodiversity. Visitors can see preparations of marine life and learn more about the tides and current conditions in the Mozambique Channel.
