Ouzoud
Ouzoud is famous for its 110-meter high waterfalls, which plunge in three stages into a lush green canyon. The name means 'olive' in Berber, referring to the many olive groves scattered across the area. A unique highlight for visitors is the troop of wild Barbary macaques that often hang around the viewpoints, interacting with tourists. A well-maintained path leads down to the bottom of the falls, passing many small cafes and artisan stalls along the way. At the base, you can take a boat trip to get right under the mist of the falling water. For those looking for more adventure, there are longer hiking trails leading to traditional watermills and natural pools. Located about 150 km northeast of Marrakesh, it is a top-tier destination for day trips. The local food is excellent, with many terraces offering views of the falls while you eat. Spring is the prime time to visit for maximum water volume, though the site remains beautiful and refreshing throughout the year.
