Dar al-Makhzen Rabat (Morocco)

Weather…

Dar al-Makhzen in Rabat is the official primary palace of the King of Morocco and serves as the country's central administrative headquarters. The current complex was built in 1864 on the ruins of an older 18th-century palace and reflects the grandeur of the Alaouite dynasty. The extensive grounds include not only the royal private apartments but also the Ahl al-Fas imperial mosque, administrative buildings, barracks for the Royal Guard, and vast parade grounds. The architecture is a masterpiece of Moroccan style, characterized by intricate wood carvings, colorful zellige tiles, and monumental brass-clad gates. Although the palace interior is not open to the public, the exterior complex impresses with its symmetry and strict security protocols. The palace is the setting for major state visits and national ceremonies, underlining its role as a symbol of Moroccan sovereignty and political authority.
