Cercle Cité (Luxembourg)

Weather…

The Cercle Cité, on the central Place d'Armes, is one of the most magnificent administrative and event buildings in Luxembourg City. Built between 1904 and 1906, the 'Cercle Municipal' originally served as a venue for festivals and receptions for the city's elite. The neo-baroque facade, designed by architects Paul and Pierre Funck, is richly decorated and crowned by a frieze depicting Countess Ermesinde handing over the Charter of Freedom to the city's citizens in 1244. From 1952 to 1969, the building housed the European Court of Justice, underscoring its importance in the early days of European integration. After extensive renovation, it was reopened in 2011 as 'Cercle Cité' and is now a modern cultural and conference center that combines historical elegance with contemporary functionality. It houses exhibition spaces, conference rooms, and a restaurant, and is a spirited meeting place in the heart of the city.
