Al-Azizia Farmland (Libya)

Weather…

The Al-Azizia Farmland is located in the Jafara Plain of northwestern Libya and is considered one of the most fertile areas in the country. Historically, the town gained worldwide fame when a temperature of 58 degrees Celsius was recorded there in September 1922, which was the highest temperature ever measured on Earth at that time. Despite these extreme climatic conditions, the region is a major agricultural hub that supplies Tripoli with fresh produce. Cultivation focuses on cereals such as wheat and barley, as well as a variety of fruit trees and vegetables. Agriculture relies heavily on the Great Man-Made River project, which conduits water from fossil aquifers in the Sahara to the north. In recent decades, modern irrigation techniques have been introduced to increase yields and improve resource efficiency. The fertile soils are partly of volcanic origin and rich in nutrients, making the region indispensable for national food security. Al-Azizia remains a symbol of human perseverance against the desert and the effective utilization of arid landscapes through innovation.
