Homa Bay is a bay and town on the south shore of Winam Gulf of Lake Victoria, in western Kenya. It serves as the administrative capital of Homa Bay County and is a significant economic center for the region. The town’s economy is heavily dependent on the resources provided by the lake, particularly Nile perch and tilapia fishing, which supports a large portion of the local population. Geographically, it is located near the Ruma National Park, which is famous for being the only place in Kenya where the endangered roan antelope can be found. The surrounding landscape is characterized by the Homa Hills and a tropical climate with high humidity throughout the year. Historically, the area has been a hub for the Luo people, whose cultural heritage is deeply integrated into the town’s daily life and social structures. Today, Homa Bay is expanding its infrastructure to better connect with other major towns like Kisumu and Migori, fostering regional trade and development.
