Sokolov-Sarbai Iron Ore Enrichment Plant (Kazakhstan)

Weather…

The Sokolov-Sarbai Mining and Enrichment Plant (SSGPO) is the largest producer of iron ore raw materials in Kazakhstan. Located in Rudny in the Kostanay Region, the facility was founded in the 1950s after vast magnetite deposits were discovered in the steppe. The complex comprises several massive open-pit mines, including the Sokolovsky and Sarbaisky pits, as well as underground mines. SSGPO is part of the Eurasian Resources Group (ERG) and primarily supplies the steel industries in Kazakhstan, Russia, and China. The facility integrates the entire process from ore extraction to the production of high-quality iron ore pellets and concentrates. In recent years, massive investments have been made in the digitalization of mining processes ('Smart Mine') to boost productivity. The plant is the backbone of the economy in the Kostanay Region and secures employment for thousands of specialists. The dimensions of the open-pit mines are so vast that they are clearly visible even from space.
