Gulf of Aqaba Coast (Jordan)

Weather…

The Aqaba coast is Jordan's only gateway to the sea, stretching approximately 27 kilometers along the northern end of the Gulf of Aqaba, a branch of the Red Sea. This strategically vital region is characterized by crystal-clear waters, lively coral reefs, and towering desert mountains in the hinterland. The Gulf of Aqaba is part of the rift system and is distinguished by extreme depths of up to 1,800 meters very close to the shoreline. The underwater world hosts over 200 species of hard and soft corals and an enormous variety of tropical fish, making it a world-renowned diving destination. Established in 1997, the Aqaba Marine Park protects these delicate ecosystems from the impacts of mass tourism and industry. Economically, the coast is central due to the Port of Aqaba, the country's only seaport, and the special economic zone (ASEZA). Historically, Aqaba was a key junction on incense and pilgrimage routes between Egypt, the Hejaz, and the Levant. The combination of historical heritage, modern luxury tourism, and natural beauty makes the coast a pillar of the Jordanian economy.
