The city is situated in an extensive Sudanian zone, characterized by vast savannas and scattered granite rock formations. Boundiali is a major economic hub for cotton cultivation, often referred to as the 'white gold' of the region. The Compagnie Ivoirienne pour le Développement des Textiles (CIDT) operates large ginning plants here, which dominate the city's economic life. Historically and culturally, Boundiali is deeply rooted in the Senufo people, whose customs and craftsmanship shape the social fabric. Several traditional villages in the surrounding area are known for their blacksmithing and weaving.
