Bingerville, situated on the outskirts of Abidjan along the Ébrié Lagoon, holds a prominent place in Ivorian history. From 1900 to 1934, it served as the country's second colonial capital, named after Louis-Gustave Binger, the first French governor. The town is renowned for its lush botanical garden, established in 1904 on an area of approximately 34 hectares, which preserves numerous tropical plant species. Architecturally, Bingerville still retains many relics from the colonial era, including the former Governor's Palace, which now functions as an orphanage. The city has transitioned from an administrative hub to a significant educational and scientific center, hosting institutions such as the École Militaire Préparatoire Technique. Due to its proximity to the metropolis of Abidjan, Bingerville is growing rapidly as a preferred residential area for commuters. Its serene location on the shores of the lagoon and its historical flair make the city a unique place compared to the modern districts of the nearby metropolis.
