Soverato is located in the Gulf of Squillace and is considered one of the most important tourist resorts on Calabria's Ionian coast. The town is divided into three zones: Soverato Marina, the coastal tourist center; Soverato Superiore on a hill; and Soverato Vecchia, the ruins of the original town destroyed by an earthquake in 1783. The kilometer-long beach is characterized by its fine, light sand and exceptionally clear water, frequently awarded for its high quality. A unique feature of the Bay of Soverato is its seahorse sanctuary, being home to two rare species of Hippocampus. The promenade, Lungomare Europa, is the social heart of the town, lined with restaurants, cafes, and modern beach clubs. During the summer months, Soverato transforms into a hub of Calabrian nightlife, attracting visitors from across the region. Culturally, the church of Maria Santissima Addolorata is noteworthy for housing the famous 'Pietà' sculpture group by Antonello Gagini from 1521. Local cuisine provides fresh seafood and the region's typical spicy flavors. Soverato is well-connected via the SS106 highway and serves as a well-suited base for exploring the Ionian coast and the nearby mountain villages.
