Weather…

Apollonia, also known as Arsuf, is an ancient city perched on a kurkar cliff overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, north of Tel Aviv. Founded by the Phoenicians in the 6th century BCE, it flourished under Roman and Byzantine rule as a major center for the production of raw glass. During the Crusader period, the city was known as Arsur and became the site of the pivotal Battle of Arsuf in 1191, where Richard the Lionheart defeated Saladin's forces. The fortress visible today was heavily fortified by the Knights Hospitaller in the 13th century, featuring concentric walls and a deep dry moat. Crusader control ended in 1265 when the Mamluk Sultan Baibars captured the city after a 40-day siege and systematically demolished its walls to prevent resettlement. The site is now a national park, though it faces ongoing challenges from coastal erosion threatening the integrity of its cliffside ruins.
