Petah Tikva, often called the 'Mother of the Settlements,' is one of Israel's oldest modern Jewish cities, located just east of Tel Aviv. Founded in 1878 as an agricultural colony, the settlement was initially abandoned due to malaria outbreaks but was successfully re-established in 1883 with the vital support of Baron Edmond de Rothschild. Its name, meaning 'Gateway of Hope,' reflects the aspirations of its founders. Originally a major center for citrus farming, Petah Tikva has transformed into a leading industrial and high-tech hub. The city is particularly renowned for its world-class healthcare facilities, most notably the Rabin Medical Center, which is one of the largest and most advanced medical complexes in the Middle East. Economically, it hosts numerous multinational corporations and telecommunications firms within its Kiryat Aryeh and Ramat Siv industrial zones. In recent years, the city has experienced significant population growth and urban renewal, becoming one of Israel's most populous municipalities. While modern in infrastructure, Petah Tikva remains proud of its pioneer roots, preserved through local museums and historic landmarks.
