Al-Qasim is a city located in the Babil Governorate, about 30 kilometers south of Hilla. It is named after Al-Qasim, the son of Imam Musa al-Kadhim, whose magnificent shrine forms the religious and architectural center of the city. The shrine is a major destination for Shia pilgrims from all over Iraq and beyond, giving the city deep spiritual significance. Geographically, Al-Qasim lies in the fertile alluvial plain between the Euphrates and the Tigris, allowing for intensive agriculture. The surrounding area is known for its extensive date palm groves and grain cultivation. The city itself has maintained a traditional character, with social life often centered around the religious complex and adjacent markets. Due to its location on regional connecting roads, Al-Qasim is well connected to the neighboring religious centers of Najaf and Karbala. Every year, large commemorative ceremonies take place here, attracting tens of thousands of visitors and boosting the local economy.
