Bannerghatta Biological Park (India)

Weather…

Bannerghatta Biological Park is located approximately 22 kilometers south of Bengaluru and was established in 1971. Originally part of a larger national park, the biological park was carved out as a separate entity in 2002 to integrate wildlife conservation with managed tourism. The complex features a zoo, expansive safari grounds for tigers, lions, and sloth bears, and India's first dedicated butterfly park, which opened in 2006. A standout feature is the elephant sanctuary, providing a semi-natural habitat for rescued elephants. The park also serves as a critical wildlife corridor for wild elephants moving between the forests of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. In addition to its diverse fauna, the site includes botanical gardens and a small museum showcasing prehistoric fossils. Its rugged, hilly terrain with granite outcrops makes it a vital green lung and recreational escape for the urban population of Bengaluru.
