Getting there
Located along Tai Po Road, the reserve is readily accessible by several public bus and minibus routes. A short walk from the roadside bus stop leads directly into the lush forest environment.
Best season
Spring and early summer are highly recommended for witnessing bustling bird activity and blooming flora. The dense canopy gives substantial shade, making this a tolerable walk even during hotter months.
Terrain & paths
Visitors can choose from four distinct color-coded trails varying in length and elevation. The paths are mostly shaded, featuring natural dirt surfaces interspersed with occasional rocky steps and wooden bridges.
What to bring
Closed-toe walking shoes and insect repellent are essential for comfort in the damp forest. Binoculars and a telephoto camera lens are heavily recommended for serious birdwatching enthusiasts.
Parking
There is an extremely small parking zone near the entrance which fills up immediately on weekends. Using public transportation or taking a taxi is strongly advised to guarantee hassle-free access.
Safety
Due to the dense foliage, the trails can become confusing in fading light; ensure you exit before sunset. Beware of slippery moss-covered rocks and exposed roots across the pathways after rainfall.
Time needed
Depending on which color-coded trail you select, a hike here can take anywhere from one to three hours. Birdwatchers typically spend significantly longer to silently observe the canopy.
