Sok Kwu Wan, situated on the eastern shores of Lamma Island, maintains the atmosphere of a traditional Cantonese fishing community despite its proximity to the skyscrapers of Hong Kong. The village is best known for its long strip of stilt-mounted seafood restaurants that line the waterfront, drawing crowds who arrive by ferry from Central or Aberdeen. Beyond its culinary appeal, the area holds significant historical sites, including the Tin Hau Temple, which has served local mariners for centuries. A short walk from the main pier leads to the Kamikaze Grottoes, a series of tunnels carved into the hillside by Japanese forces during WWII to hide speedboats intended for suicide missions. Sok Kwu Wan also serves as a gateway for hikers; it is the starting point for the scenic Lamma Family Trail, an elevated coastal path that passes through old hamlets and hilltop viewpoints on the way to the island's other main settlement, Yung Shue Wan.
