In the late 20th century, the site faced the threat of redevelopment but was eventually saved and leased to the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. A meticulous restoration project followed, which earned a UNESCO Asia-Pacific Award for Cultural Heritage Conservation in 2008. Declared a statutory monument in 2013, the Bethanie now houses a museum detailing its missionary past and serves as a unique venue for performances and ceremonies, blending its spiritual heritage with modern cultural education.
