Weather…

The Green Island Lighthouse compound, located on a small island off the western coast of Hong Kong Island, features two historic towers that represent different eras of maritime safety. The older lighthouse, a small circular stone structure, began operations in 1875 as one of the earliest colonial navigational aids. To meet the demands of increased shipping traffic in Victoria Harbour, a second, much taller tower was constructed in 1905. Standing 17.5 meters high, the newer lighthouse is built of granite and masonry, featuring a distinctive red dome. Together, they safely guided vessels through the narrow Sulphur Channel for over a century. In 2008, both lighthouses were declared statutory monuments, preserving their unique architectural blend and historical significance. While the island itself is not generally open to the public for preservation reasons, the lighthouses remain iconic landmarks visible to thousands of commuters daily from the ferries traveling between Central and the outlying islands of Lantau and Cheung Chau.
