Getting there
The park is easily accessible from The Peak via the Peak Trail or directly from Pok Fu Lam Road. Various city buses stop at the main entrance and make the starting point particularly uncomplicated.
Best season
Thanks to the dense canopy and numerous shaded sections, this park can be visited pleasantly almost all year round. During the wet summer season, the vegetation shines in a particularly lush green.
Terrain & paths
The forest area is home to a very well-developed, interconnected system of paths that often have concrete or paved surfaces. The family trails around the water reservoir are flat and easy to walk.
What to bring
Since the paths are mostly firm and shaded, comfortable casual clothing with simple, firm footwear is perfectly sufficient. Insect repellent is advisable to repel the numerous mosquitoes near the forest.
Parking
A few parking spaces exist at the riding school near the reservoir, but these are mostly reserved for members. It is generally recommended to arrive by taxi or bus to Pok Fu Lam Road.
Safety
The routes are considered to be very family-friendly and safe. Hikers should, however, watch out for snakes that occasionally warm up on the warm concrete of the forest paths on sunny days.
Time needed
A relaxing forest walk around the historic water reservoir usually takes around one to two hours. Those who want to cross the park to hike up to Victoria Peak should plan for about three hours.
