💡 Tips
- Ferries from Central depart regularly to both Yung Shue Wan and Sok Kwu Wan; a great route is to arrive at one, hike across the island, and depart from the other.
- There are no cars on the island, making it wonderfully pedestrian-friendly, but be prepared for a fair bit of walking.
- Weekends can be very busy with day-trippers; visit on a weekday if you want to experience the island's famous laid-back, bohemian vibe.
- Bring mosquito repellent and sun protection if you plan to hike the Family Trail connecting the two main villages.
- Visit the Lamma Fisherfolks' Village near Sok Kwu Wan to learn about the traditional fishing industry of Hong Kong.

Lamma Island is Hong Kong’s third-largest island and serves as a popular retreat for those seeking a slower pace of life, distinguished by its strict car-free policy. The island’s unique charm stems from its bohemian atmosphere, attracting a diverse mix of artists, expatriates, and nature lovers. It features two primary residential and commercial hubs: Yung Shue Wan in the north, known for its eclectic shops and cozy cafes, and Sok Kwu Wan in the south, world-renowned for its stilted seafood restaurants serving fresh local catches. The two villages are linked by the scenic Family Trail, a paved hiking path that winds through lush hillsides and has panoramic coastal views of the South China Sea. Lamma is also home to the territory's first commercial wind turbine, known as Lamma Winds, which has become a landmark for sustainable energy. From traditional Tin Hau temples to relaxing beaches like Hung Shing Yeh, Lamma Island provides a refreshing and culturally rich contrast to the high-rise density of the city center.
