Chorio is the only significant settlement and the heart of Kimolos island. The town is distinguished by its medieval core, the Kastro, built during the 14th and 16th centuries for defense against pirate raids. The architecture of Chorio is a prime example of the Cycladic style, featuring whitewashed walls, blue doors, and courtyards adorned with flowers. A unique feature of the island is the use of 'Kimolia,' a local type of chalk that gives the buildings their characteristic luster. The Archaeological Museum of Chorio presents artifacts from the submerged city of Ellinika on the west coast. Numerous significant churches are located within the town, including the Cathedral of Panagia Odigitria, which houses a valuable collection of icons. Kimolos has maintained an authentic and tranquil atmosphere, far removed from the mass tourism of neighboring islands. The local gastronomy is based on regional products like 'Ladenia' flatbread, considered a precursor to pizza.
