Diakofti serves as the welcoming main port for the captivating Greek island of Kythira, offering visitors an unforgettable first impression. Unlike typical bustling, industrial ferry ports, Diakofti immediately presents a dramatic tropical aesthetic, featuring a relaxed island atmosphere and some of the most striking coastal scenery in the Ionian Sea. The centerpiece of the village is the spectacular Diakofti beach itself. With its blindingly white sand and incredibly shallow, crystal-clear turquoise waters, the beach resembles a Caribbean lagoon more than a typical Greek shoreline. The remarkably calm waters make it an absolute paradise for swimming and a well-suited, safe playground for young children to splash and play. Adding a touch of mystery to the idyllic landscape is the famous shipwreck of the 'Nordland', which ran aground just off the nearby islet of Makronisi in the year 2000. Today, visitors can enjoy excellent seafood at the waterfront tavernas, sip coffee while watching the ferries gently arrive, or simply bask in the surreal, postcard-great beauty of this unique coastal haven.
