Daratsos is located just a few kilometers west of Chania on the island of Crete, offering a great blend of traditional Greek life and modern coastal tourism. The region is characterized by rolling hills covered with silver-green olive trees and provides spectacular views of the Aegean Sea. The architecture in the village center has remained largely traditional, allowing visitors an authentic Cretan experience. The coastal part of Daratsos is home to the popular Kalamaki beach, known for its shallow, crystal-clear water and fine golden sand. Kalamaki is especially popular with families, as the access to the sea is gentle, and numerous amenities such as sun loungers, cafes, and taverns are available. Nearby are also the bays of Agioi Apostoloi, which are handy for swimming and water sports. The local gastronomy is a highlight, with taverns in Daratsos serving fresh fish, Cretan cheese, and specialties made with local olive oil. Access is easy, as Chania International Airport is only about 20 minutes away by car. It is a well-suited starting point for exploring western Crete while enjoying peace away from the main crowds.
