The Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, formerly known as the Tamale Stadium, is a multi-purpose arena located in Tamale in northern Ghana. It was completed in 2008 in time for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and has a seating capacity of approximately 21,000 spectators. The stadium is known for its modern architecture and the distinctive roofing over the main stands. In 2017, it was renamed in honor of Aliu Mahama, the late Vice President of Ghana, who hailed from the northern region. In addition to football matches, the facility is used for athletics competitions and large-scale cultural events. The playing field consists of high-quality natural grass, and the stands provide an excellent view of the action. The stadium has significantly contributed to promoting sports in the north of the country and establishing Tamale as a key hub for national events. It remains one of the most modern sports venues in West Africa.
