💡 Tips
- Take a ride in the 'Tauchgondel' (diving gondola) at the end of the pier to see the Baltic Sea's underwater world without getting wet.
- For a great photo opportunity and panoramic view, walk up to the cliffs ('Steilküste') located just south of the marina.
- The Ostseecard (resort tax card) gives you free beach access and discounts at many attractions, including the Grömitzer Welle swimming complex.
- Rent a bike and cycle north to the Lensterstrand area, a nature reserve with dunes and a much quieter atmosphere.
🍽 Food
Freshly smoked fish from a local smokehouse. Best enjoyed warm, straight from the oven, often found near the marina.
Pan-fried plaice with bacon cubes. A hearty and typical dish offered in many traditional restaurants in town.
Try sea buckthorn as juice, liqueur, or jam. It has a unique tangy flavour and is sold in many local shops and at the weekly market.
🛍 Shopping · 🧘 Quiet spots
Visit the Thursday morning market at the Neuer Markt for fresh regional produce, cheese, fish, and local crafts.
The main pedestrian shopping street in the town centre, offering a mix of well-known brands and owner-operated shops.
A few kilometres inland, this former medieval monastery with its peaceful gardens features a cultural and tranquil escape.
The dune landscape north of the main resort is a designated nature conservation area, well-suited for bird-watching and peaceful walks.
In the early morning or late evening, a stroll along the docks of the marina is very peaceful, watching the boats bob in the water.
Water temperature…
Grömitz is located on the Wagrien peninsula and has a tradition of over 200 years as a seaside resort. Its 3.5-kilometer beach promenade is one of the longest in Germany, featuring numerous sculptures, gardens, and eateries. The landmark is the 398-meter-long pier, at the end of which a diving gondola takes visitors beneath the waves of the Baltic Sea while staying dry. The town is particularly family-friendly, offering activities such as the 'Arche Noah' zoo and the 'Kraxelmaxel' climbing park. For sailors, the modern marina with over 700 berths provides top-tier infrastructure. The beach faces south, granting Grömitz an exceptionally high number of sunshine hours. The surrounding landscape is first-rate for bike tours to the Cismar Abbey or along the steep cliffs of Bliesdorf.
