💡 Tips
- Rent a bike to explore the coast. A great cycle path leads north to the quieter village of Haffkrug.
- For a remarkable view, especially at sunset, take a walk south along the coast to the Brodtener Steilufer cliffs.
- Avoid the summer crowds on the main beach by visiting in the early morning. It's also the best time for a peaceful walk on the Dune Mile.
- Use the regional train for a day trip to the historic city of Lübeck, famous for its marzipan and medieval architecture. The ride is only 20 minutes.
🍽 Food
A classic Baltic Sea sandwich with pickled or smoked fish. Get it from one of the many snack stalls along the promenade.
Pan-fried spring plaice is a seasonal delicacy. Look for it on the menus of seaside restaurants, often served with bacon and potatoes.
The world-famous almond confection. You can buy it in almost any local shop as an excellent souvenir or treat.
🛍 Shopping · 🧘 Quiet spots
The main promenade is lined with fashion boutiques and lifestyle shops, well-suited for a seaside shopping spree.
Drive a few kilometers inland to find farm shops ('Hofladen') selling fresh local produce, jams, and regional specialties.
The central spa gardens offer a peaceful green oasis with shady trees and benches, just a few steps away from the bustling beach.
The beach in the neighbouring village of Haffkrug is wider and much less crowded than the main Scharbeutz beach.
A short bike ride inland takes you to a series of freshwater lakes, great for swimming or a quiet walk in nature.
Water temperature…
Scharbeutz has evolved into one of the trendiest Baltic Sea resorts in recent years. Its centerpiece is the Dune Mile (Dünenmeile), a newly designed promenade at sea level lined with numerous restaurants, cafes, and lounges. The beach is fine-grained and stone-free, making it particularly popular with families. For relaxation, the Ostsee-Therme, a large adventure and wellness spa located right on the beach between Scharbeutz and Timmendorfer Strand, is a top choice. Outdoor activities are a focus here: from beach soccer and volleyball to guided bike tours into the Holstein Switzerland region. The new pier provides modern seating and panoramic views of the entire bay. Scharbeutz is also known for its lively nightlife and events like the Street Artist Festival. Connection to the A1 motorway and regional trains makes Scharbeutz a well-suited destination for day-trippers and long-term vacationers alike.
