The town's biggest festival, organised by the St. Hubertus Marksmen Brotherhood of 1417, traditionally held around St. John's Day on the last weekend of June.
As a proud former Hanseatic city and the unofficial capital of the Sauerland region, Brilon fascinates visitors with its rich history and panoramic natural surroundings. The historical center is dominated by the impressive town hall, one of the oldest in Germany, featuring a striking gabled facade that dates back to the 13th century. Just a few steps away stands the massive Provost Church of St. Peter and Andrew, whose towering presence has shaped the skyline for centuries and whose baroque interior attracts art historians from all over. For outdoor enthusiasts, Brilon is a true paradise, as it marks the starting point of the famous Rothaarsteig, one of the country's most beautiful long-distance hiking trails, leading through deep forests and over scenic ridges. The town has gained special fame for the traditional Schnadezug, a historical border-walking festival held only once every two years, which draws thousands of people into the woods to revive ancient customs accompanied by hearty regional food. Those seeking relaxation will find a peaceful retreat in the expansive spa park, complete with beautifully maintained paths and Kneipp water-treading pools, convenient after a long cycling tour.
