Baesweiler is located in the north of the Aachen City Region and looks back on a lively history significantly shaped by coal mining. The Carl Alexander colliery was the city's main employer for many decades, defining its social and economic life. Following the cessation of mining in 1975, Baesweiler achieved an exemplary structural transformation. The former mining site was converted into Carl Alexander Park, a landscape park that blends industrial history with modern leisure activities. Particularly striking is the observation platform on the slag heap, providing wide views over the Jülich-Zülpicher Börde. Today, the city is an attractive residential location with a strong medium-sized economy and a modern technology center (its Baesweiler) that attracts innovative companies. Proximity to the university city of Aachen and excellent motorway connections make Baesweiler a dynamic location in the border region of Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands.
