Set between the Wiehen Hills and the Weser Uplands, Bad Oeynhausen exudes the refined elegance of a classic 19th-century spa town. The crown jewel of the city is its magnificent Kurpark (spa park), designed in the grand English landscape style by the renowned architect Peter Joseph Lenné. Flanked by opulent Neo-Baroque bathhouses and grand architectural facades, a walk through the park feels like stepping into the Belle Époque. A spectacular highlight here is the Jordansprudel, the world's highest naturally carbonated thermal saltwater spring, which forcefully shoots water up to 40 meters into the air on select days. Culturally, the city shines through the Kaiserpalais within the park, which now houses the prestigious GOP Varieté-Theater, delivering world-class acrobatics and live entertainment. For a deep dive into local folklore, the German Fairy Tale and Weser Legends Museum has captivating exhibits for all ages. Just outside the traditional center lies Aqua Magica, a starkly modern landscape park created in 2000 that allows visitors to descend into a fascinating subterranean water crater. This seamless blend of majestic historical spa architecture and modern theatrical entertainment makes Bad Oeynhausen a captivating destination.
