As the "forest city" in the northwestern Sauerland region, Iserlohn completely lives up to its name, as large parts of the municipal area are covered by dense deciduous and coniferous forests. The town looks back on a long and proud tradition in metalworking, which continues to shape the urban landscape today through historic industrialists' villas and old manufacturing complexes. An absolute must-see for every visitor is the Dechen Cave (Dechenhöhle), one of the most beautiful stalactite caves in Germany, where you can marvel at massive stalactites and stalagmites along fascinating underground paths. Towering high above the city is the Danzturm, Iserlohn's widely visible landmark. Those who climb its steps are rewarded with a fantastic panoramic view over the densely wooded hills of the Sauerland. For relaxing hours by the water, locals and tourists alike gravitate to the Seilersee. This reservoir gives excellent infrastructure with walking paths, a mini-golf course, and an adjacent thermal brine bath. In the lively town center, well-kept pedestrian zones with a variety of shops and cozy restaurants invite visitors to linger and enjoy the atmosphere.
