Bad Laasphe is situated on the southeastern edge of the Rothaar Mountains and, as a Kneipp spa town, is a major center for health and wellness. Founded in the 13th century, it served for centuries as the residence of the Counts and Princes of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Hohenstein. Wittgenstein Castle, perched above the town, remains its most prominent landmark and currently houses a boarding school. The historic old town is notable for its exceptionally well-preserved half-timbered architecture and the old town hall. A unique attraction is the International Mushroom Museum, which features one of the largest mycological collections in Europe. Economically, the town is shaped by tourism and healthcare, alongside brewing (the Bosch brewery) and medium-sized industries in metal and plastic processing. Its position on the Lahn Cycle Path and the Rothaarsteig hiking trail makes Bad Laasphe a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
