Stadtoldendorf is a town in the Holzminden district of Lower Saxony, positioned between the Solling, Homburgwald, and Holzberg hills. Its history as a chartered town dates back to 1255, but it gained its greatest prominence in the 19th century as a hub for the gypsum and sandstone industries. The wealth generated from these resources is still evident in the grand manufacturer villas scattered throughout the town. High above the skyline sit the ruins of Homburg Castle, once one of the most powerful fortifications in the Weser Uplands. For much of the 20th century, Stadtoldendorf was a significant garrison town for the German military, a role that has now shifted towards tourism and outdoor adventures. The town is home to 'Mammut Park,' one of Germany's leading off-road vehicle parks, attracting adventure seekers from across Europe. Situated in the Solling-Vogler Nature Park, the town has extensive trails for hikers and nature lovers through dense beech and spruce forests.
