Holzminden, located in southern Lower Saxony, is widely recognized as the 'City of Scents and Flavors.' This title stems from its role as the global headquarters of Symrise, a leading international producer of fragrances and flavorings. Situated on the banks of the Weser River, the city serves as the economic and administrative hub of the Holzminden district. The city's history dates back to the 9th century, with formal town rights granted in 1245. Throughout the centuries, it evolved from a modest agricultural settlement into a specialized industrial center. The urban landscape features a blend of historical half-timbered houses and contemporary industrial facilities. Set within the Weser Uplands (Weserbergland), Holzminden gives exceptional outdoor opportunities, particularly for cycling along the famous Weser Cycle Path. The city is also home to a renowned faculty of architecture and engineering, part of the HAWK University of Applied Sciences and Arts, which adds a youthful and academic dimension to its historical charm.
