An engineering masterpiece of international standing is hidden deep beneath the castle hill: the Weilburg ship tunnel, built in 1847, is the oldest and longest navigable water tunnel in Germany and provides a spectacular experience for anyone canoeing down the Lahn. In the pleasant old town, with its steep, winding alleys, cosy cafés and the beautiful market square invite you to linger. Directly across from the town lies the Tiergarten Weilburg, an expansive wildlife park that is home to over 400 native animals in naturalistic enclosures. The Rosenhang Museum, with its impressive collection of contemporary art, makes Weilburg a versatile destination for lovers of culture and nature alike.
