Hallstadt is a historic city in Upper Franconia, Bavaria, located directly on the northern border of Bamberg. Its significance dates back to the early Middle Ages, specifically the Carolingian era, when it served as the site of a royal palace (Königshof). First mentioned in 741 AD, it was a central hub for the Christianization of the region, featuring one of the oldest baptismal churches in Franconia. Throughout the centuries, Hallstadt evolved from an administrative center of the Bishopric of Bamberg into a modern industrial city. Today, it is home to major international companies, including a large Michelin tire plant, making it one of the economic powerhouses of the Bamberg district. Despite its industrial growth, Hallstadt has preserved much of its traditional charm, particularly in its historic center with its sandstone buildings and the prominent St. Kilian church. Geographically, it sits in the Main Valley, providing scenic river views and access to the diverse landscapes of the Franconian Jura and the Haßberge hills.
