Aichach is the capital of the Aichach-Friedberg district, located in the heart of the Wittelsbach Land in Bavarian Swabia. The town is inextricably linked to the history of the Bavarian Wittelsbach royal family, as the dynasty's ancestral castle was located in the Oberwittelsbach district. A major cultural highlight is the moated castle of Unterwittelsbach, famously known as the 'Sisi Castle', where Empress Elisabeth of Austria spent her childhood summers. The cityscape is defined by a well-preserved old town featuring two medieval gates, the Upper and Lower Gates, and the historic town hall. Geographically, Aichach is situated in the rolling hills along the Paar river. Today, the town acts as a significant regional hub, blending modern services with traditional crafts within a landscape shaped by agricultural heritage.
