Gersthofen, situated in the Swabian district of Augsburg in Bavaria, has transformed from a rural village into a powerhouse of modern industry. The city's growth was accelerated by its proximity to Augsburg and its location on the Lech river, which provided power for early chemical plants. Gersthofen is uniquely famous for its Balloon Museum, the oldest of its kind in the world, housed in a historic water tower. The museum has a comprehensive look at the history of lighter-than-air flight, reflecting the region's long aviation tradition. Geographically, the Lech river and its meadows provide vital green space for residents. Economically, the city is home to numerous international companies, particularly in the chemical, logistics, and engineering sectors, benefiting from the A8 motorway connection. Despite its industrial importance, Gersthofen maintains a rich cultural life centered around the 'Stadthalle' theater and concert venue.
