The Bee Farm in Macouria, often referred to as the Rucher de Macouria, is a pioneering enterprise for tropical beekeeping in French Guiana. The farm specializes in the production of honey sourced from the pristine rainforest, utilizing both introduced honeybees and indigenous stingless bees known as meliponines. The honey produced here is characterized by its unique flavor profile, shaped by the diverse forest blossoms and tree resins of the Amazonian environment. In addition to honey production, the farm is dedicated to educating the public about the ecological importance of bees as pollinators within the tropical ecosystem. Visitors can sample various bee products on-site, including pollen, propolis, and specialized forest honey varieties. The farm employs sustainable beekeeping methods to ensure the health of the colonies in a high-biodiversity environment with specific climatic challenges. It represents a significant link between agriculture and nature conservation.
