Guiana Zoo

The Guiana Zoo, situated in the commune of Macouria between Cayenne and Kourou, is the leading institution for the protection and display of Amazonian wildlife in the region. Spanning several hectares of tropical landscape, the park is home to more than 450 animals representing approximately 75 different species, including jaguars, pumas, various primates, and a bustling array of tropical birds. A standout feature of the zoo is the canopy walk, which allows visitors to observe the animals and the forest from the unique perspective of the treetops. The zoo places a strong emphasis on environmental education and the conservation of endangered species, many of which were rescued from illegal trade or habitat loss.
