Mallemort is an animated Provencal town situated on the southern bank of the Durance river, serving as a natural crossroads in the Bouches-du-Rhône department. Its history is deeply rooted in the agricultural exploitation of the fertile plains surrounding the river, which became possible thanks to complex canal systems. The old village center is characteristically perched on a limestone ridge, dominated by the ruins of a medieval castle once owned by the Bishops of Marseille. This elevated position provides remarkable views of the Alpilles and Luberon massifs. In recent years, Mallemort has gained international recognition through the development of the Pont Royal International Resort, which features one of France's premier golf courses designed by Severiano Ballesteros. The town also has the historic Suspension Bridge, an impressive 19th-century structure that testifies to the region's industrial heritage. Mallemort remains a key player in the regional economy through its specialized fruit production and expanding hospitality sector, all while maintaining a high quality of life centered around traditional Provencal squares and local markets.
