Located at the southern foot of the Luberon mountains, Lourmarin is one of the most lively and refined settlements in Provence. The village was discovered by the literary elite in 1948 when Henri Bosco and Albert Camus moved here. The symbol of the place is the castle built at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries, considered the first Renaissance-style structure in Provence, after a local industrialist saved it from ruin in the early 20th century. The settlement's architecture differs from the typical mountain villages of the region, as it is situated on a relatively flat area and has three different bell towers. On Friday mornings, a huge farmers' market fills the plane-tree-lined streets, representing one of the most important gastronomic events in the area.
