Saint-Brevin-les-Pins is a unique coastal town located in the Loire-Atlantique department, positioned exactly where the Loire River meets the Atlantic Ocean. The town is named for the expansive pine forests planted in the 1800s to anchor the shifting sand dunes, giving the area a distinctive Mediterranean-like fragrance. It is widely famous for the 'Serpent d'Océan,' a striking 130-meter-long sea serpent sculpture by artist Huang Yong Ping that reveals itself during low tide on the beach. Across the water, the silhouette of Saint-Nazaire and its famous shipyard is visible, connected by the majestic Saint-Nazaire Bridge, one of the longest in France. The town features 8 kilometers of fine sand beaches, making it a hotspot for kitesurfing, windsurfing, and sand yachting. Visitors can explore the Museum of the Marine or enjoy the extensive network of coastal trails and cycling paths, including part of the 'EuroVelo 6' route. With its blend of maritime heritage, contemporary art, and lush natural landscapes, Saint-Brevin-les-Pins provides a diverse and refreshing atmosphere for both residents and international tourists.
