Les Achards is a newly established commune in the Vendée department of western France, officially founded on January 1, 2017, following the merger of La Mothe-Achard and La Chapelle-Achard. This strategic unification has turned the town into a powerhouse of the local economy, situated conveniently between the regional capital, La Roche-sur-Yon, and the famous Atlantic seaside resort of Les Sables-d'Olonne. Historically, La Mothe-Achard was an important feudal seat, and visitors can still see the remains of its medieval 'motte' (castle mound). Today, Les Achards is recognized for its thriving business parks, which host a wide variety of industries ranging from logistics to manufacturing. Despite its economic growth, the town remains deeply connected to its rural roots. The scenic Bibrou Lake provides a focal point for leisure, offering walking trails, fishing spots, and playgrounds. The local architecture is a welcoming mix of traditional Vendéen stone houses and contemporary sustainable housing developments. With its animated cultural program and modern sports complexes, Les Achards has a high quality of life that appeals to both long-time residents and newcomers seeking a balanced lifestyle near the Atlantic coast.
