Ruelle-sur-Touvre is a city with a strong industrial identity, shaped by the founding of the royal foundry in 1753 by the Marquis de Montalembert. For centuries, cannons for the French Navy were cast here, making the town a strategic pillar of national defense. Geographically, it is situated on the banks of the Touvre, a remarkable river fed by powerful karst springs. The foundry is now part of the Naval Group, producing advanced equipment for submarines and surface ships. The cityscape reflects this history, featuring workers' housing, engineers' residences, and monumental factory installations. Despite its industrial focus, the town provides attractive natural spaces through the Touvre valley for recreation and fishing. The city is deeply integrated into the Angoulême urban area, benefiting from its cultural amenities.
